Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital

Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital is a rural hospital, which is only accessible by boat. Students are given independence and autonomy, but also have full support and care from a welcoming, friendly staff. Patients suffering with hernias present quite frequently at the hospital, so students with an interest in surgery may find this to be an interesting elective. Malaria is another commonly seen illness at the hospital. The Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital is the only hospital in the Afram-plains district of Ghana and serves a 5,000 sq km district that has a population exceeding 100,000 people in one of the most deprived regions in Ghana.

It is possible to visit rural villages whilst working alongside members of the church’s outreach programme whilst on placement at this hospital. Students are offered a lot of responsibility on this placement but are well supported by the hospital staff.
